WEEK ONE

We begin the course with a look at spherical reflective shapes & sketching pencils. Use our marble images, your own photography, or study them from life.

WEEK TWO

This week, we take another look at tonal value and sketching. Using a range of pencils, we will explore how to use abstract shapes to capture moving liquid.

WEEK THREE

Today, we are using non-permanent fineliner pens to create illustrative old boots. We will explore the use of ellipses to plot the shape and apply water to capture a full range of values.

WEEK FOUR

We finish our monochromatic work with these minimalist ink orchids. Inspired by the work of East Asia, we will use one large brush to capture the shape and tonal values to create depth.

WEEK FIVE

Using our knowledge of depth from last week, today we introduce colour to create these watercolour roses. We will use loose shapes to build our compositions and layer vibrant hues to create a shallow depth of field.

WEEK SIX

This week we will use sponges and flicks to create our nighttime galaxies. We will then layer the silhouette shape of woodland treetops to create contrast & distance.

WEEK SEVEN & EIGHT

We begin our paintings studying figure & fabrics over a two-part session.
In Week 7, we will use shapes to build our compositions, creating soft backgrounds and foreground foliage.

In Week 8, guided by the shape of tonal values, we will layer paint to build the skin tones and fabric.
